Norovirus
There has been a big increase in Norovirus cases ( the winter vomiting/diarrhoea bug) in December, with over a million cases. Norovirus is very contagious and to prevent its spread good hand hygiene is essential and unwell people must stay away from hospitals, schools, care homes and enclosed places where it can spread rapidly. Norovirus is transmitted by contact from any surface, an infected person or by eating contaminated food and drink. Symptoms of Norovirus are a sudden onset of vomiting and diarrhoea , also high temperature, headache and stomach cramps. The illness normally resolves itself in 1 or 2 days. Treatment with oral rehydration salts e.g Dioralyte , painkillers like paracetamol will alleviate the symptoms. Speak to our pharmacists for advice.
